The Gourd is the original way in which the Mate is taken, generally made from a kind of “pumpkin” called Lagenaria. This gourd is completely natural, the brown color is made through burning the pumpkin and the lighter color inside is from its natural color and it gives an exquisite taste to the mate.

How to Care for Your Mate Gourd:

1. Before using your new gourd for Mate, rinse it with cold water and a soft sponge to remove any impurities. You can then proceed to prepare Mate.
2. After enjoying your Mate, remove the yerba mate and rinse the gourd internally with running water only. Never use steel wool, detergent, or any chemical products.
3. Store the gourd in a dry and airy place. Avoid drying it in direct sunlight, as this can cause irreversible cracks and stains on the gourd.
4. It’s best not to use the same gourd every day. Alternate between two gourds to allow for complete drying.
5. Another important care tip is never to let the gourd dry upside down, as it may develop mold. Instead, lay it flat to allow better airflow inside
